MY FACE SMILES and TRENDING MEMORIES.
“My Face Smiles”

I’m excited to introduce my book, My Face Smiles: Through the Fields of Segregation: Country Living with a Smile”. In this book, I take you on a journey down the red clay roads of my childhood—a place where struggle and joy intertwined. Those roads weren’t just paths through the countryside; they were filled with life lessons that shaped who I am today.
Walking that red clay road with my siblings, our laughter bouncing through the air, or simply standing still, taking in the fiery colors of a sunset, I learned to find joy in the simplest things—family, nature, and the peace of being fully present. But it was also a reminder that life’s journey isn’t always easy. Some paths seemed too rough to tread, but each step brought me closer to home, teaching me that perseverance is not just about surviving challenges, but discovering beauty along the way.
In my book, I share the lessons I’ve carried with me, from the red clay to today. It’s a testament to how our struggles and our joys shape us, and I hope it resonates with your own journey. Stay tuned for more details, and thank you for walking with me!
Excerpts from my book “My Face Smile”
Daily Life in the Countryside
Daily life in Metcalfe was a frequent blend of simplicity, routine, and hard work, deeply intertwined with the natural world and the changing seasons. Our days began with the crow of the roosters, a sound that was as much a part of our morning as the rising sun. It was an unmistakable signal that it was time to rise, shake off the last remnants of sleep, and start the day. The rooster’s call was the countryside’s alarm clock, setting the pace for the long work hours ahead.
The aroma of breakfast cooking on a wood-fired stove would greet us as we stirred from our beds, a comforting reminder of the warmth and care that filled our home. The smell of cornbread baking, bacon, and grits on the stove roused even the sleepiest among us. These hearty breakfasts were not just meals—they were fuel, providing the energy we needed for the demanding workload that awaited us. With her early rising and diligent hands, my mother ensured we never started our day on an empty stomach. Her meals were simple but nourishing, reflecting our modest means and the love with which she prepared every dish.

A Daughter’s Heart
Excerpt from Trending Memories
“Caregiving isn’t just about tending to the physical needs of a loved one; it’s about holding their memories when they can no longer hold them themselves.
I didn’t realize how much love could stretch until I watched my mother’s world slowly narrow. Each day became a gift — a moment to honor her dignity, her laughter, her stubborn strength.
Some days, we laughed. Some days, we cried. But through it all, I discovered a truth deeper than any sorrow:
Love remembers even when memory fades.
And somewhere between the ordinary moments — the meals, the prayers, the holding of hands — God planted seeds of grace that grew stronger than grief itself.”
