Strengths, Resilience, and Faith – A Discussion on My Face Smiles

Welcome to the My Face Smiles Through the Fields of Segregation: Country Living with a Smile discussion blog. I’m Annie Guyton Abrams, and I’m honored you’ve taken time to stop by.
This book is deeply personal—it carries the voice of my younger self growing up in Metcalfe, Georgia, the strength of my community, the pain of segregation, and the beauty of family, faith, and survival. It’s my prayer that as you read these pages, something inside you feels seen, strengthened, and encouraged.
Recently, someone shared this heartfelt comment with me:
“I am motivated by your (page V paragraph 3); dedication to those who find strength in God through hardship and resilience in adversity. (Pg. 248, paragraph 2 says, do not let limitations define you, AMEN. Heartfelt introduction of ‘MY FACE SMILES,’ ANNIE GUYTON ABRAMS.”
That stopped me in my tracks. Because that’s what this book is all about:
Faith in hard times. Resilience in the face of adversity. Smiling through it all.
On page V, I wrote to honor those who still find strength in God when life gets heavy. And on page 248, I reminded us all—“Do not let limitations define you.” We may face barriers, but we are not bound by them.
LET’S TALK:
As we begin this blog series, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s discuss:
- Where do you find strength when life gets hard?
- Have faith or family helped you push past your limitations?
- What line, paragraph, or moment in the book spoke to you personally?
You don’t have to be a writer to comment—just be real. This is a space for honest voices, thoughtful reflection, and shared stories.
Thank you for reading My Face Smiles Through the Fields of Segregation: Country Living with a Smile. Your presence here matters. Your voice matters. And I’m excited to grow this conversation with you each week.
With love and a smile,
Annie Guyton Abrams
